We had the onam programme on 24th August 2023. It was a memorable day with lots of celebrations . During the morning session Our respected teachers lit the flame and began the programs . It included onapattu , malayali manka and malayali mannan , group dance etc. Outdoor programs included vadam vali . musical chair, sundarik pottu thodal etc. It was a wonderful event. We also had Sadhya during lunch time. A mega thiruvathira was also conducted in the school ground. After that the college closed for Onam vaccation.

                                          (24/7/23-26/7/23)

On 24/7/23,Monday , after the morning assembly I went to VIII-C during the third hour .As announced I conducted an achievement test of 25 marks on the chapters A Shipwrecked Sailor , From a Railway Carriage and  Marvellous Travel . After the test of 45 minutes I collected the answer sheets and left the class. During the rest of the hours in school I almost completed correcting the answer sheets. And by the seventh hour I was given a substitution in VIII-C . I went to the class and discussed the question paper. I also told about the mistakes they made and briefly explained the concepts related to it once again.

On 25/7/23, Tuesday , I had third hour in VIII-C ,where I conducted the diagnostic test . Students were alarmed of this surprise test , but they calmed down seeing the question paper, as it was objective type. At the end of the hour I collected the paper and exited the class.

On 26/7/23 Wednesday , I had fourth hour in VIII-C .I went  and distributed the answer sheets . I also did a remedial teaching on the questions that students errored the most. I used ICT to do the remedial teaching which was based on the chapter A Shipwrecked Sailor and Marvellous Travel.Then I concluded the class by asking them to write a feedback on my class and then I bid them farwell. It was an emotional moment for me and the students I taught.

This week I successfully completed the second phase of teaching practice. Through the tests conducted I was able to analyse the student performances. Students performed well. I was glad that I was able to teach students effectively.

While leaving the class i was emotional , so were the students I taught . They gave me wonderful feedback , some even asked me to stay there . I wished them all a bright future and left the class . It was a indeed a wonderful journey . Apart from theoretical knowledge , the experience we receive from teaching practice is innumerable. I learned a lot about class management , time management , interacting with students etc. I also was able to polish my skills during these days . This was indeed a memorable experience.Im also thankful to all the faculty in MVHSS for their constant support nad help.

                    WEEKLY REFLECTION PHASE II  

                                    (19/7/23-22/7/23)

On 19/7/23 , Wednesday ,the classes resumed after the Karkidaka Vaavu holiday as well as the mourning of late Ommen Chandy .I had class in VIII-C during the second hour , which was a substitution as the concerned teacher was absent. So I continued teaching A Shipwrecked Sailor according to my lesson plan .  By the end of the hour I finished the chapter . Then during my regular hour, that is , the fourth hour I taught them a grammar portion namely Adjectives- Degree of Comparison. I took the class In Advance Organizer Model. By the end of the class I made sure that they understood the concept well. During the afternoon session I corrected their homeworks .

On 20/7/23 Thursday , after the morning assembly I had fourth hour in VIII-C. I decised to teach them a poem titled From A Railway Carriage  by R.L .Stevenson . I introduced the poem by talking about trains,showing them pictures of trains  and also I used a chart to present the profile of the author. The session went well as planned .

On 21/7/23 Friday , I had fourth hour in VIII-C .During the entry  activity I made them listen to Chayya Chayya song to teach them locomotive rhythm . This captured the student attention . Then my class went smoothly. I completed the poem by the end of the class and announced an achievement test on Monday.

On 22/7/23,Saturday , I had second hour In VIII-C . During this hour I had class observation by  Mrs. Benazir miss , my English teacher in B.Ed college. I decided to teach students the poem Marvellous Travel by Joshua Fernandez. I took the class using appropriate ICT devices , activity cards etc. After the class I got comments from my Miss about my class, which I rectified in the following classes. During the afternoon session I received a substitution in VIII-C again , where I completed the lesson Marvellous Travel. I reminded them of the achievement test on Monday and exited the class,wishing them a happy weekend.

This week I was able to complete all my lesson plans .Though unexpected holidays posed a problem , I managed to finish the portions assigned to me through the substitution classes I got. Students were co-operative , and I also made sure to bring into class ideas that arouse their interest. I had good classroom management most of the days. Students also followed my instructions well. I was yet to conduct an achievement test to see the student levels in my class.

                                        (10 /7/23- 14/7/23)

On 10/7/23,Monday , after the morning assembly I had fourth hour in VIII-C . I continued teaching them A Shipwrecked Sailor .I used ICT while teaching glossary .During the afternoon session I corrected the notebooks of VIII-C students.

On 11/7/23 , Tuesday , I had third hour in VIII-C . Accordingly I went to the class and continued to teach the chapter. My entry activity based on a movie released then arose discussions among students as they were excited. But I was able to manage the class well and continue with my lesson plan .

On  12/7/23,Wednesday , I had fourth in VIII-C . I continued teaching the lesson A Shipwrecked Sailor. During the discourse I had included a word game which arose their interest and everybody engaged very well. I was able to ward away the monotony of regular class hours .

On 13/7/23,Thursday , after the morning assembly I had a substituition in VIII-C during the second hour. So I utilized this period to continue with the chapter .My class went as planned according to the lesson plan. Then again I had fourth hour in VIII-C , where I continued the lesson . Students asked me to play games like the day before , but since I couldn’t waste an hour , I continued with the class , but I was liniet and made the class more engaging as possible.During the afternoon sessions I corrected their homeworks.

On 14/7/23 Friday , I had fourth hour in VIII-C . I took class as per lesson plan . Students were attentive too. They also responded rightly to my questions.

This week I had good teaching sessions. Since I included ideas that arosed child’s interest , I had less problems with conveying concepts . I was able to do it swiftly. I had good time management most of the hours. Since I was also pacing to finish the portions assigned to me , I felt I was being a little with students . But bringing in more activities that engaged them helped me tackle students swiftly.

                                         (3/7/23-7/7/23)

On 3/7/23 , Monday after morning assembly I had third hour in VIII-C . Since I had finished a unit in previous class , I decided to take a grammar portion . Acoordingly I taught them affixes using Concept Attainment Model. During the sixth hour I had substituition in Xth grade where I engaged in interaction with the students.

On 4/7/23 , Tuesday I had third hour in VIII-C .After helping the staff in office with some works as requested , I went to take my regular class. Today I began Unit –II. I taught them A Shipwrecked Sailor by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.I used ICT for the entry activity and to teach about the author. During the sixth hour I took them to the ground for P.T period.

On 5/7/23 , Wednesday I had second hour in VIII-C . I continued the chapter A Shipwrecked Sailor .The class went well according to my lesson plan . During the afternoon session I corrected their notebooks.

On 7/7/23,Friday , the class resumed after rain holiday .I continued teaching the chapter in VIII-C during the fourth hour according to my lesson plan .Students also showed positive responses to the classes I took. During the afternoon session I took VIII- B students for I.T period.

This week I felt pretty relieved of my anxiety and nervousness in handling fresh students. Since they were new to High School I had to teach them some basics at times. Recurring grammatical errors is an example. I had improved my classroom management skills ,and also the timings. Students were also comfortable with my teaching.

                                         (26/6/23-1/7/23)

On 26/6/23, Monday ,we observed Anti-Drugs Day. As a part of it we had a special morning assembly . We along with students took an oath about anti-drug usage. Further we had an orientation class for HS and VHSS students by Mr.Reji , a faculty of VHSS about drug usage. Then the students of NCC , B.Ed trainees organized a anti-drug signature wall on which we all signed. Further we along with students of HS,VHSS and B.Ed trainees marched to and from Manjappara junction with placards , banners and loud slogans about anti – drugs day. This covered the morning session , during the afternoon session I had fifth hour in VIII-C . I continued the chapter Taj Mahal .

On 27/6/23 , Tuesday I had second hour in VIII-C . I taught them the next poem We’re the World by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie .In the beginning of the class I showed them a song my Michael Jackson , which captures attention of students. Further I also played the song We’re The World during the discourse activity . Then I also engaged them during the sixth hour ,during the P.T period.

On 30/6/23 , Friday the classes resumed after the Eid-ul-Adha holidays . I had fourth hour in VIII-C .I noticed that a number of students were absent , may be due to the holiday that merged with the weekend . Further I continued teaching the poem We’re The World .Since the class strength was low I did not complete the poem .During the afternoon session I corrected students notebooks and also engaged VIII-C during the ECA period.

On 1/6/23 ,Saturday , I had third hour in VIII-C , where I completed the poem We’re the World . Students were reluctant to study as it was Saturday and they we hardly out of Eid holidays. But I managed to engage them and take class by raising few discussions in between.

This week I was able to finish the first unit of class VIII . I had classroom management issues when I used ICT this week , as students invariably engage in conversations on sights they see in videos. Further I felt my students were more attentive . My use of varied techniques to engage class also proved fruitful. Students also gave me a positive response while asking questions .
